Sonja Steiner (1996, in Austria) is an artist currently based in the Netherlands. Her primary medium is textile. With her work she questions constructed gender attributes that linger throughout the art world. The textiles often contain words or phrases that derive from a critical view on gender difference. Her newest project combines performance with her textiles, where she highlights how cultural codes such as clothes, construct gender.

Sonja has received her Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the University of Arts London and Bachelor of Arts at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. She is currently receiving her second Bachelor of Arts from Leiden University, studying Arts, Media and Society. Her works have been shown twice at Billytown, The Hague, in 2018 and 2019.
She has completed internships at Knoll Galerie in Vienna and at Whispering Wall Gallery in The Hague. For more information please contact Sonja via email.
